Measles alert in New Zealand - What you need to know

Measles cases have been detected in parts of New Zealand. Here’s what you need to know to keep yourself and your whānau well.
If you’re unwell
- Stay home and call your general practice or Healthline (0800 611 116) for advice.
- Some common measles symptoms include fever, cough/runny nose/red eyes, then a blotchy rash a few days later.
Protecting your whānau
- Check that you and your children are up to date with the MMR vaccine. Vaccination with the MMR vaccine is the best way to protect against measles.
- If you’re unsure, your general practice can check your records and book you in for the vaccine.
Going to a practice
- If you suspect you have measles, please phone ahead. We will organise a safe plan for care.
